The
Memory Care Cottage at Cypress Glen is a twelve-room cottage specially designed to care for those seniors
with dementia-related illness,
the most common of which is Alzheimer's. The resident rooms are 12’ x 17’
and are
positioned around the circumference of the building so each has a
window.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own furnishings and personal
belongings.
Each
resident room has a curio
cabinet outside the door. Here residents can place photos or other
memorabilia, which will offer them comfort and also help them to identify
their own rooms. From each room there is a direct line to the bathroom for
safety, with darker-
painted walls behind the commode for orientation, and
showers wide enough for care givers to provide assistance. An emergency call
system is also in place.
In
addition to the resident rooms there is a central kitchen, a central nursing
station, a living room, a dining area and offices. From the central nursing
station there is a clear view of all the rooms. There are also “quiet rooms”
which are used to soothe and relax some residents and to stimulate others. A
screened porch looks out onto the enclosed garden, which has various scented
plants and a fountain, A gate allows residents to move in and out yet remain
enclosed.
The administrator of the memory care cottage is Laura Jett. Mrs.
Jett is a licensed social worker and licensed dementia care home
administrator. She is available to help you make a decision about memory
care. You may reach her by calling the number listed to the left.
